Yasir Jones enjoyed a superb fall season in the Huntington varsity football team’s backfield. His performance was dizzying at times with two games of more than 200 yards rushing and three touchdowns. The team’s coaching staff has high expectations for the junior next fall.

The Huntington UFSD athletic department is offering two free football intramural programs for students across grades 6-12. The intramurals will begin the week of February 9.

Thomas Smith captured the Christopher Pettit Award at the Huntington High School football team’s annual awards dinner that drew a crowd of 250 to the Halesite Fire Department. The Blue Devil senior was recognized as the player with the highest academic average.

Peter Sansiviero is Huntington through and through. He graduated from high school here, taught physical education at J. Taylor Finley Middle School for 34 years and coached in the Blue Devil football program for 18 seasons.

With the Huntington girls’ varsity volleyball team graduating a core group of seniors, it’s time for the Blue Devils to reorganize following another good year. The team once again qualified for the playoffs and finished the season with a winning record.

Huntington 102 has begun preparing for the fall season. This will be the 102nd season that Huntington High School has fielded a football team. The coaching staff recently attended a clinic in Connecticut and will soon participate in a second one in New Jersey.

For the first time in more than a decade, Huntington High School will put a varsity boys’ volleyball team on the court in the fall. Trustees have appointed veteran physical education teacher Eric Mininni as the head coach.

Huntington UFSD is currently considering reinstating its varsity boys’ volleyball team, which was discontinued many years ago. There is a boys’ volleyball team at J. Taylor Finley Middle, but it is a winter season sport on the modified level. Varsity boys’ volleyball is contested in the fall season on the high school level.

The Huntington High School football team’s 101st season is now in the history books after the Blue Devils won five games and had eventual county champion Half Hollow Hills East on the run late in a 33-21 playoff loss.

Valerie Ferreira captured All-County honors and Elizabeth James and Khloe Bedell garnered All-League recognition to pace the Blue Devils’ contribution to the combined Harborfields/Huntington girls’ gymnastics team this fall.

All 11 fall season varsity athletic teams at Huntington High School have captured the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar Athlete Award based on the grade point averages of respective team members.

Six Huntington UFSD fall interscholastic athletic teams have captured Section XI Sportsmanship Awards. Each of the squads will be given a certificate to display at the respective school.

The Huntington girls’ volleyball team won a marathon match against Bellport on Senior Day at Louis D. Giani Gymnasium. The four set victory propelled the Blue Devils into the Section XI playoffs where the team will play at No. 1 Half Hollow Hills West today (Thursday) at 5 p.m.

Ella Granito and Caroline Mitek scored goals and Katie Cocoman stopped three shots to lift the Huntington field hockey team over William Floyd on Tuesday night, 2-1 and put the Blue Devils in the Suffolk playoffs.

Huntington Blue Devil girls’ tennis players are joining their colleagues from Cold Spring Harbor and Harborfields on Sunday (October 20) for a double round robin tournament at Cold Spring Harbor High School to benefit the mission of Pink Aid, a not-for-profit whose mission is to help underserved breast cancer patients survive treatment with support and dignity, to provide screening and financial assistance to those in need and to empower breast cancer survivors to heal by helping and inspiring others.

Interest in the sport of girls’ volleyball is booming in Huntington UFSD. The varsity and junior varsity teams have a combined total 30 players while the two teams at Finley Middle School routinely see as many as 100 girls tryout in November.
