Registration for Sports Made Easy
Huntington UFSD is now partnering with FinalForms, an innovative online forms and data management service that promises to revolutionize the current athletic program form submission process during each sport season at J. Taylor Finley Middle School and Huntington High School.
With FinalForms, parents can conveniently complete and sign athletic participation forms for their child using any digital device. This user-friendly platform also empowers parents to review and update their personal information at their convenience, ensuring its accuracy.
FinalForms even pre-fills information wherever possible for each student, effectively saving everyone valuable time. One of the most valuable features of FinalForms is its ability to retain data season after season and year after year, eliminating the need to enter the same information repeatedly.
Parents will be able to upload physical exam reports, interval health history documents and digitally sign consent forms. Student-athletes will be asked to sign up for their respective sport and sign-off on code of conduct and consent forms.
As the Huntington athletic department and nurses work to seamlessly integrate FinalForms into its systems, the district a Parent Playbook (link below) that offers clear instructions on how to register and access an account and begin using FinalForms. Fall Season Athletics Headlines
Blue Devil Field Hockey Feted at County Dinner
Huntington players were feted at this week’s Suffolk County Field Hockey Coaches Assn. awards dinner at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook. The Blue Devils reached the playoffs, compiling a 9-7-1 record in league play.
Blue Devil JV Boys’ Soccer Displays Potential
Huntington High School’s junior varsity boys’ soccer team kept pace with its opponents this past fall, finishing 4-4 in league play at 7-8 overall.
Boys’ Volleyball Players Asked to Indicate Interest
Huntington UFSD is currently considering reinstating its varsity boys’ volleyball team, which was discontinued many years ago. There is a boys’ volleyball team at J. Taylor Finley Middle, but it is a winter season sport on the modified level. Varsity boys’ volleyball is contested in the fall season on the high school level.
Huntington 101 Claims Post-Season Awards
The Huntington High School football team’s 101st season is now in the history books after the Blue Devils won five games and had eventual county champion Half Hollow Hills East on the run late in a 33-21 playoff loss.
Blue Devil Gymnasts Capture Honors
Valerie Ferreira captured All-County honors and Elizabeth James and Khloe Bedell garnered All-League recognition to pace the Blue Devils’ contribution to the combined Harborfields/Huntington girls’ gymnastics team this fall.
Blue Devil JV Golf Compiles 10-5 Mark
The Huntington junior varsity boys’ golf team compiled a 10-5 record this past fall. The Blue Devils were coached by social studies teacher James Graber and captained by Joe Perotti and Graham Gooch. The roster included 14 players.
Blue Devils Win New York State Scholar Honors
All 11 fall season varsity athletic teams at Huntington High School have captured the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar Athlete Award based on the grade point averages of respective team members.
Heinz & Driscoll Lead Blue Devil Boys’ Cross Country
The Blue Devil varsity boys’ cross country team wrapped up its season after a particularly warm fall. Huntington was coached by Southdown School physical education teacher John Romano and captained by sophomore Eric Heinz and senior Michael Mendikyan.
Blue Devil Fall Teams Win Sportsmanship Awards
Six Huntington UFSD fall interscholastic athletic teams have captured Section XI Sportsmanship Awards. Each of the squads will be given a certificate to display at the respective school.
H-ton Girls’ Cross Country Will Return Entire Team
The Huntington varsity girls’ cross country team made strides this fall with increased interest and improved performances. The Blue Devils were led by Emma Boyle, Kiley Barch and Julia Goodwin and coached by Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School physical education teacher Elizabeth Andersen.
St. John & Weindschreider Pace Girls’ Varsity Soccer
The Huntington High School varsity girls’ soccer team wrapped up its season with junior Jolie Weinschreider and senior Devon St. John capturing All-Conference honors.
H-ton JV Volleyball Makes Move
The Huntington junior varsity girls’ volleyball team was increasingly competitive this fall. The team was captained by La-Khiasja Casey, Alexandra Boeckmann and Gabriella Jones and coached by high school physical education teacher Lauren Blackburn.
Blue Devil Football Advances to Playoffs on Saturday
The upstart Huntington football team nearly pulled off its biggest upset in many years when it pushed heavily favored Half Hollow Hills East to its limit before bowing to the Red Hawks last Saturday at Blue Devil Stadium, 21-14.

The Huntington girls’ volleyball team won a marathon match against Bellport on Senior Day at Louis D. Giani Gymnasium. The four set victory propelled the Blue Devils into the Section XI playoffs where the team will play at No. 1 Half Hollow Hills West today (Thursday) at 5 p.m.

Huntington’s junior varsity girls’ soccer team turned around its fortunes from last fall and compiled an 8-4-1 record. Freshman forward Claire Dello-Iacono led the squad with 12 goals.

Junior Yasir Jones ran for 229 yards and three touchdowns and senior Timmy McDonald made 11 tackles to pace the Huntington varsity football team to its third consecutive victory as the Blue Devils topped Copiague, 42-8 this past Saturday.
Huntington Girls Tennis Joins Pink Aid Fundraiser
Huntington Blue Devil girls’ tennis players are joining their colleagues from Cold Spring Harbor and Harborfields on Sunday (October 20) for a double round robin tournament at Cold Spring Harbor High School to benefit the mission of Pink Aid, a not-for-profit whose mission is to help underserved breast cancer patients survive treatment with support and dignity, to provide screening and financial assistance to those in need and to empower breast cancer survivors to heal by helping and inspiring others.

The Blue Devil junior varsity girls’ tennis team closed out its season with an 11-2 record. The squad was coached by Huntington High School physical education teacher Eric Mininni and captained by Olivia Kaufman and Grace Oliva.

The Huntington football team overwhelmed visiting Bellport early in the first half before a standing room only crowd at Blue Devil Stadium and went on to capture its biggest victory of the season last Friday, 21-0.
Huntington Girls’ Swimmers are 6-1 this Fall
The Huntington High School girls’ swimming and diving team has won six-of-seven meets this fall heading into the current week. The Blue Devils are their combined super-team partners from Walt Whitman, Harborfields and John H. Glenn are 6-1 with two regular season meets remaining.

The Huntington High School varsity field hockey threw a party for six special players on Senior Day. The careers of Alexandra Centrone, Charlotte Curtin, Ella Granito, Rafaella Gregorio, Aine Rimkunas and Sophia Weiss were celebrated with touching posters affixed to the bleacher façade, anecdotes and warm words from coaches and teammates.

Trailing 4-0 early in the first half, the Huntington varsity girls’ soccer team staged an improbable rally as the Blue Devils battled visiting Lindenhurst to a 5-5 tie in a mandatory non-league game on Monday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Fall Athletic Season Participants Total Over 500 Students
There are more than 500 Huntington UFSD students in grades 7-12 participating in the fall athletic program. The district is sponsoring 17 high school teams and nine squads at J. Taylor Finley Middle School.
Blue Devils Roll Over Smithtown East, 34-14
The Huntington football team shook off three separate mishaps on its opening possession and go on to overwhelm Smithtown East this past Saturday, 34-14. The Blue Devils amassed more than 400 yards of total offense to even their record at 2-2 halfway through the regular season.

The Huntington varsity football team presented a signed game ball to Superintendent Beth McCoy early Tuesday morning to commemorate her first Homecoming Day victory on the gridiron. The Blue Devils upset visiting North Babylon on Saturday for the first time in 31 years, 25-23.

The crowd was on its feet on Homecoming Day 2024 last Saturday afternoon as the Huntington football team staged a last second goal-line stand to stop an attempted game tying two-point conversion as the Blue Devils toppled visiting North Babylon for the first time in 31 years, 25-23.

Interest in the sport of girls’ volleyball is booming in Huntington UFSD. The varsity and junior varsity teams have a combined total 30 players while the two teams at Finley Middle School routinely see as many as 100 girls tryout in November.
Chase Gadaire Shoots Par to Pace Huntington Golfers
The Huntington varsity boys’ golf team followed up on a season opening 9-0 win over Walt Whitman by defeating John H. Glenn, 8-1. The Blue Devils won both matches on their opponents’ home courses, the former at the Town of Oyster Bay facility and the latter at Crab Meadow in Northport.

Captains for Huntington High School fall season teams have been announced by Blue Devil head coaches and have assumed their positions of leadership with all of the squads.
Huntington Boys’ Golf Wins Opener
The Huntington boys’ golf team topped Walt Whitman in the season opener on the Town of Oyster Bay course, 9-0. The Blue Devils are coming off a 2023 campaign that saw the team reach the county semifinal playoff round.

About the Fall Season Athletics Program
A Longstanding Tradition of Excellence
Through the years, the Huntington interscholastic athletics program has played an important role in the lives of students and community members. An integral part of the Department of Physical Education, organized athletics in the Huntington School District date back more than one hundred years. Since the inception of sports teams here, Blue Devil competitors have won every possible honor bestowed on high school athletes.
Life Lessons and Opportunities to Participate
Students who choose to participate will learn lessons in the value of hard work, teamwork, personal sacrifice and commitment, time management, respect for authority and rules, as well as how to lead and follow. A myriad of sports are offered during fall, winter and spring seasons. Students can choose to compete on one team each season. Parents of athletes, alumni, and community members who want to support and become involved in the athletic program have an opportunity to join the Huntington Booster Club. This organization sponsors many activities and promotes and enhances the operation of the athletic program.
Communication made Easy
Schedules for all teams and directions to away contests are available from the athletic office or by logging onto the Section XI website at www.sectionxi.org.
Coaches are also available to discuss any aspect of their specific program with prospective athletes and/or parents. For further information, including tryout dates and sports offered by season, please call the athletic office at 631-673-2018.
Fall Season Athletics Leadership
James M. Hoops
District Director for Athletics, Health and Physical Education
James M. Hoops assumed the position of district director of health, physical education and athletics on July 1, 2021. He previously served for three years as coordinator of physical education, athletics and special projects. He has worked full-time in the district since April 1984 and has been a physical education teacher since September 1990. He is also certified as a social studies teacher.
A graduate of John H. Glenn High School, Mr. Hoops obtained undergraduate and graduate degrees at Stony Brook University, through which he also obtained his school administrator certification. He has coached wrestling on the high school level and boys’ and girls’ tennis and girls’ soccer on both the middle school and high school levels. He has also coached middle school boys’ and girls’ soccer and baseball.
While serving as assistant coach to iconic Hall of Fame head coach Lou Giani, the Blue Devil wrestling team won several Suffolk and state team championships along with 17 individual county and eight state champions.
Mr. Hoops has also served as the district’s public information coordinator since July 2001. He maintains Huntington UFSD’s website content and also prepares items for the district’s various social media platforms.
Michael Marinello
District Coordinator for Physical Education, Athletics and Driver's Education
Michael Marinello has been the district’s coordinator of physical education, athletics and driver education since July 1, 2021. He has been a Huntington physical education teacher since September 1995. He earlier taught at Western Suffolk BOCES for five years.
A graduate of Sachem High School, Mr. Marinello earned an undergraduate degree at Springfield College in physical education and a master’s degree at Stony Brook University in liberal studies with a concentration in health science. He has coached high school golf, high school and middle school wrestling, JV tennis and middle school baseball and boys’ track and field.
Currently the head coach of the Huntington High School varsity golf team, Mr. Marinello is also an assistant varsity wrestling coach. He has been a well-known and well-liked faculty member and athletic coach who also lives in the community and has sent his own children through Huntington High School.
Mr. Marinello is a CPR and First Aid trainer. He has also been a volunteer emergency medical technician. He has taught driver education for many years and he leads the district’s program.
