Huntington’s universal pre-kindergarten program is presented in partnership with SCOPE Education Services and the YMCA. Contingent upon ample enrollment, full-day sessions are offered within each of the district’s four primary schools and at the YMCA. The program is grant-funded. As such, there is no cost to enrollees.
Students must be district residents and reach age four by December 1 of the upcoming school year to be eligible for the program. Applications are made available during the winter prior to the year of enrollment. Should the volume of applications exceed the number of available program seats, a public lottery will be announced and held during the prior spring.
The program’s instructional and learning activities are comprehensive in nature. Curricula are aligned with State and district standards, and include social/emotional components that are suitably engaging for four-year old children. Program teachers are carefully selected and certificated by the State of New York to teach in the pre-school setting.
