Sofia VanArsdale Honored as Senior MVP Player

Huntington varsity field hockey coaches Kathy Wright and Allison Conlon recognized Class of 2026 member Sofia VanArsdale at the Senior MVP Player Award recipient at the 58th annual Blue Devil senior athletic awards ceremony in the high school auditorium.

VanArsdale garnered All-County honorable mention honors for her outstanding play on defense. She helped lead her teammates into the playoffs.

An Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, VanArsdale was named a Distinguished Senior last spring.

“The key to my success has been time management,” VanArsdale said. “I always prioritize my schoolwork and I make schedules for homework, due dates and to-do lists to structure my days. Even though I put school first, I make sure to take care of myself by taking mental breaks. It’s important to value personal time in order to accomplish schoolwork with full mental capacity. I have enjoyed the mentorship from teachers and coaches. The lessons I’ve learned and the care that teachers have given me is something I value because I have not only grown as a student, but as a person. It has helped me reach new levels in my academics and outlooks in life, and I’ve loved how this guidance has taught me more about myself. My three years on varsity field hockey and my two times involved in playoffs have been such highlights of my extracurriculars, especially when I became a captain my senior year.”

A regular member of the high school’s High Honor Roll, VanArsdale participated in a community based dance program and garnered Pride Awards, too.

VanArsdale intends to major I psychology at SUNY New Paltz where she plans to enroll in the honors program.
