Blue Devils Look Good at 4-Way Scrimmage

In its third week of practice, the Huntington High School football team continues to make progress. The Blue Devils graduated more than 20 seniors from last year’s playoff squad and have new faces in many key positions.
Commack, Half Hollow Hills West and Central Islip came to Huntington High School on Friday for late afternoon scrimmages with the Blue Devil varsity and JV teams and with each other. With the coaches on the field, players went through offensive and defensive packages. The scrimmages were more instructional than competitive.
A group of Section XI officials was on hand to work on their own skills after a long off-season layoff and get the players and coaches ready for the first game, which is on the horizon.
Huntington head coach Ronald E. Wilson and his staff were generally happy with how the Blue Devils performed. The group said that players are making progress and the team is better at this point than they thought it would be. “That improvement needs to continue,” Wilson added.
Following a light practice on Saturday morning, the team enjoyed its annual pre-season barbeque on the track with Wilson manning the grill. “We had a great turnout,” Wilson said.
Huntington will open at Bellport next week. Regular season games with Half Hollow Hills East, Smithtown East, North Babylon, Commack, Newfield, Northport and Deer Park will follow.
