Be Here. Be Huntington High School: Building Connection, Belonging and Attendance

October 9, 2026

Huntington High School has kicked off its revamped schoolwide attendance campaign, “Be Here. Be Huntington High School.,” under the leadership of Dr. Cobelo and the dedicated Huntington High School attendance team. With a focus on belonging, relationships, regular attendance, and school connection, the campaign is designed to remind students that being present each day is an important part of their high school experience.

Students can expect to see the attendance team out and about each week in their matching “Be Here. Be Huntington High School.” gear, spreading positive energy and encouraging students to show up, get involved, and make the most of every school day.

The campaign goes beyond simply tracking attendance. It recognizes that students are more likely to attend and engage in school when they feel known, valued, and connected to the adults and peers around them. The goal is to strengthen those connections while celebrating the many ways Huntington students demonstrate growth, perseverance, and commitment.

Throughout the school year, monthly ParentSquare messages will engage students and families around a variety of attendance themes, including “Start Strong,” “Show Up for Your Team,” “Be Thankful! Be Here!” and “Finish the Year Strong!” These messages will provide practical reminders and encouragement while keeping the importance of attendance and connection visible throughout the year.

Huntington High School will also continue its quarterly attendance celebrations, recognizing students for more than just perfect attendance. Awards for Most Improved Attendance and Perseverance & Commitment will highlight students who demonstrate growth, effort, persistence, and a commitment to being present and engaged in school. Year-end recognition will include Most Improved Attendance, Perfect Attendance for 2026–27, Four Year Excellence, and Perseverance & Commitment awards.

An important component of the campaign is the role of Huntington High School’s teachers and staff. Daily relationships, early outreach to families, encouragement, and recognition of changes in attendance can often provide the first opportunity to reconnect a student with school. The campaign recognizes that the adults who know students, notice them, and care that they are present play an essential role in creating a culture of belonging.

Staff engagement activities, including ‘B Dev On the Move’, provide additional opportunities for faculty and staff to connect with one another and with students, strengthening relationships and building a positive school culture.

Through positive messaging, PBIS, student and staff recognition, family outreach, and schoolwide activities, Huntington High School is reinforcing one powerful message:

Every student belongs. Every staff member matters. Every day counts.

The Huntington High School community looks forward to building on this momentum, increasing attendance, strengthening connections, and creating even more opportunities for every student to feel a strong sense of belonging and pride in being part of Huntington High School.
