Camera Wizards Embrace Ghost Photo Challenge
november 6, 2026
Huntington High School Advanced Photography students completely embraced Ghost Photo Challenge, making Halloween especially fun this year.
The Ghost Photo Challenge combined photography, imagination and storytelling. Inspired by the spooky atmosphere of autumn, students were challenged to create photographs featuring ghostly characters and mysterious scenes. Rather than simply capturing a traditional Halloween image, students explored how photography can tell a story, establish a mood, and spark a viewer’s imagination.
The challenge encouraged students to think beyond the camera and consider how setting, lighting, composition, and creative costuming could transform an ordinary scene into something unexpected. From playful, humorous interpretations to more atmospheric and mysterious images, students used their surroundings and photographic skills to bring their ideas to life.
The resulting photographs demonstrate the creativity and individuality of Huntington’s student photographers. In one image by Harper Cohn, a ghostly figure enjoys a slice of pizza while seated outside a local restaurant, offering a humorous twist on the traditional Halloween ghost. In another by James Hartough, a solitary figure dressed as a ghost adjusts a pair of sunglasses in a dimly lit outdoor setting, creating a cinematic scene filled with mystery and atmosphere.
Through this seasonal challenge, students practiced the art of visual storytelling while experimenting with ways to communicate ideas without words. They learned how lighting, perspective, environmental details, and a carefully planned moment can turn a photograph into a narrative that invites viewers to imagine what happened before—and what might happen next.
The Ghost Photo Challenge provided a fun and engaging opportunity for Advanced Photography students to apply their technical knowledge while pushing their creative boundaries. Most importantly, it reinforced a central goal of the photography program: developing artists who can use their cameras not only to document the world, but also to interpret it, tell stories, and express their unique creative visions.
With a little Halloween magic and plenty of imagination, Huntington’s Advanced Photography students proved that sometimes the most compelling stories come from looking at the world from a different perspective.
