Huntington Celebrates School Psychologist Appreciation Week
november 2, 2026
The Huntington School District is proud to recognize its team of 11 dedicated, knowledgeable and compassionate school psychologists (Mary DiBenedetto, Andrea Becker, Nancy Devito, Julissa Garis-Shade, Miranda Kalafatis, Kathleen Mallen-Ozimkowski, Jasmina Nakeveska, Christina Martino, Ana Luna Mancia, Melody Renick, Matthew Schultz), who work every day to support the academic, social-emotional and behavioral needs of students across the district.
School psychologists play a vital role in helping students thrive at school, at home and within the community. They work closely with students to develop individualized plans and strategies that address social-emotional needs, behavior, school engagement and other challenges that may impact a student’s ability to succeed.
As critical members of the district’s Committee on Special Education (CSE), school psychologists assess and evaluate students and interpret data that helps inform instructional, behavioral and social-emotional supports. They also collaborate closely with teachers and other school personnel to ensure that student plans are thoughtfully implemented, monitored and adjusted as needed to promote meaningful progress.
Their work extends beyond the school setting. School psychologists’ partner with parents and families to build strong relationships and ensure that strategies and supports can be carried over from school to home and into the broader community. Through this collaboration, they help create a consistent network of support around each student.
“I am beyond grateful to work with a team of professionals who always goes above and beyond. They are creative, think outside the box and are committed to ensuring that we are meeting the needs of the whole child.”
School psychologists truly wear many hats. They are advocates, problem-solvers, collaborators and trusted members of the school community who work with students, families, teachers, administrators and other professionals to help every student reach their full potential.
The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) recognizes November 9–13 as National School Psychology Week. This year’s theme, “Inspire Connection,” highlights the important role school psychologists play in building meaningful relationships, strengthening collaboration and transforming school communities.
During National School Psychology Week, Huntington School District celebrates its school psychologists and thanks them for the many ways they support students, families and teachers each day. Their dedication, compassion and commitment to the whole child make a lasting difference throughout our school community.
