This special event celebrates the dedication, talent, and Jewish pride of outstanding student-athletes across Long Island and serves as a meaningful highlight of Jewish American Heritage Month.

“Jack and Julia were selected for their exemplifying excellence in athletics, leadership, character, and commitment both on and off the field, as well as within their school and community,” said Jessica Wertheimer, who helped coordinate the event.

Huntington Superintendent Beth McCoy and Director of Athletics Jim Hoops were both in attendance at Sunday’s award ceremony. Mr. Kamenstein has been an exceptional football and lacrosse player for the Blue Devils. The teenager has earned post-season awards in both sports including All-State in football after catching 43 passes for 848 yards and 10 touchdowns. He led both teams into the Suffolk playoffs. He has been recruited to play lacrosse at SUNY Geneseo.

“I demonstrate Jewish pride by representing my values of respect, perseverance and community both on and off the field,” Mr. Kamenstein said. “I show sportsmanship by treating teammates, opponents and coaches with respect, staying humble in victory and positive in defeat. I take pride in my identity and lead by example, showing dedication, hard work and integrity in everything I do. My attitude reflects the importance of teamwork, responsibility and honoring the traditions and values of the Jewish community.”

Ms. Goodwin has excelled in cross country, fencing and track and field, being named First Team Long Island in fencing and leading the Huntington girls’ team to the Suffolk finals for the first time in 25 years.

“I demonstrate Jewish pride by wearing my Star of David necklace everywhere I go, including on the fencing strip,” Ms. Goodwin said. “I’m grateful I live in a community where I feel safe enough to wear it. My necklace reminds me to always carry myself with kindness and dignity and to treat everyone with respect and I make sure I keep those morals on and off the strip.”
