Jefferson School’s Reading Night & Parent Engagement Workshop
March 27, 2026
Jefferson Primary School’s Reading Night was a great success. The event welcomed 83 families and 230 attendees for an evening of engaging, sports-themed literacy activities.
The event featured the third grade Jefferson Jaguar Leadership Team, a PTA Book Fair and a family workshop led by Jefferson faculty and staff.
Families rotated through four interactive learning spaces. In one classroom, students enjoyed a read-aloud of “Better Than a Touchdown,” followed by a thoughtful discussion and a writing activity connecting to the book’s themes.
In another room, students explored the biography “Leo Messi,” discussing nonfiction features and responding to the text through writing. A third classroom brought energy and excitement with sight word baseball, where students practiced reading sight words through movement and teamwork. In the fourth room, basketball word sorting helped students build phonics skills by identifying short and long vowel sounds while participating in a fun, hands-on game.
“We extend our sincere thanks to the teachers who spearheaded this memorable evening—Allison Muradyan and Lisa Sejarto, our MTSS Reading teachers and Julie. Dooher, our library media specialist—for their leadership and dedication in creating such a meaningful experience for our students and families,”
A survey indicated parents were overwhelmingly positive in their views of the night with families “sharing appreciation for the engaging activities, the fun sports theme, and the welcoming, supportive environment created by Jefferson staff,” Ms. Capitulo-Saide said.
