“I went to Sachem High School,” Mrs. Weider said. “I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was in high school. I took child study courses, and I realized that I had a passion for helping children learn and grow.”
The Jefferson Primary School faculty member is the twelfth teacher or staff member to be profiled as part of a new “Huntington Highlights” initiative that provides community members with insight into teachers and support staff members who toil at the district’s eight individual school buildings.
“Sharon Weider is a highly dedicated third grade teacher at Jefferson Primary School with a long and distinguished career in education that spans multiple districts, with the majority of her service devoted to the Huntington School District,” Jefferson Principal Valerie Capitulo-Saide said. “She consistently demonstrates a deep commitment to her students and to the school community.”
Outside of school, Mrs. Weider enjoys taking yoga classes, running, skiing and hiking, reading, going to the beach and traveling with her family.
“Mrs. Weider has generously volunteered her time on numerous school and district committees, including several years as an active member of the Action Team, where she played an instrumental role in fostering a warm, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment for all students,” Ms. Capitulo-Saide said. “Her collaborative spirit and leadership have had a lasting positive impact on the school culture. In addition, Mrs. Weider has served on multiple hiring committees, providing thoughtful insight and support in the selection of new educators. She has also offered to mentor new teachers, sharing her expertise and supporting their professional growth.”
A graduate of St. Joseph’s College where she studied general and special education, Mrs. Weider obtained a master’s degree in literacy.
“Mrs. Weider is a valued and respected member of the Jefferson Primary School faculty, whose dedication and professionalism greatly enrich the school community,” Ms. Capitulo-Saide said.
Mrs. Weider is highly regarded by her colleagues as well as her students and their parents. She enjoys her position and she’s great at it.
“During my time at Huntington, I have worked with many students and staff members, gaining valuable experience in education and developing a strong commitment to helping students succeed,” Mrs. Weider said. “My experience has been very rewarding. I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with amazing staff, wonderful students, and supportive families. Every day is a little different and I enjoy building relationships, helping students learn and grow, and working together with families and colleagues to support the children in our school community.”
