Huntington Seniors Urged to Apply for Available Scholarships

Huntington High School seniors are being urged to apply for available scholarships before looming deadlines. Tens of thousands of dollars are available. It is free to apply for each of the seven scholarships listed below.

The Adam Spector Memorial Scholarship was created to remember and proliferate the values of Adam Spector who passed away from lung cancer in 2014. He was an avid community member, serving on the board of education for multiple terms and participating in Huntington school organizations such as the PTA. He was an outspoken advocate for the community, consistently fighting for solutions that served the best interests of all. Two scholarships of $2000 will be awarded to a senior who plans to enroll in a two- or four- year college, university or vocational program upon graduation. Students must demonstrate satisfactory academic standing, financial aid need, and resiliency and submit a personal essay. Adventureland’s Helping Hands Foundation is now accepting applications for the Vivian &Tony Gentile Scholarship, the Sachem Dental Group Endowment Scholarship, the Island Harvest Scholarship, and more! Students must be seniors who plan to attend a Long Island college or university full-time in the fall. Students applying to the Sachem Dental Group Endowment must pursue a degree in the medical/health/ or science fields. Thirteen $5,000 scholarships will be awarded. Students should log on to http://www.helpinghandsli.org/ and click on Scholarship Fund to apply. Deadline is July 17.

The Barbara C. Harris Scholar’s Program provides financial support of up to $5,000 to Black, African American and Caribbean students interested in attending community college, four-year college or university, trade, apprenticeship or vocational school. Interested students can apply at https://www.dioceseli.org/reparations Deadline is April 30.

BP Community Scholarship Program is available to seniors who are planning to attend a two or four-year college and can demonstrate financial need. Interested students are invited to apply online at www.bpscholarships.com. Deadline is March 16.

The Chime Scholars Foundation provides students up to $20,000 in renewable scholarships and the support they need to finish school and launch their careers. Chime Scholars are eligible for up to $5,000 per year to cover tuition, books, housing, and other educational expenses. Scholars are required to fill out a short renewal application annually and are eligible for up to four years of support for undergraduate programs and up to three years for transfer, trade, and technical programs (for a maximum total of $20,000 per scholar).
