March 10, 2026
Huntington junior Caroline Mitek has committed to play NCAA Division I field hockey at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania.
“When I originally visited Scranton I was immediately drawn by the campus, the town, and the people,” Ms. Mitek said. “The team was very close knit and very clearly had a great chemistry and vibe. They’re a very competitive and hard working team.”
The Blue Devil great said she plans to study psychology. “In the future I hope to be a sports psychologist for bigger sports teams,” Ms. Mitek said.
Ms. Mitek tallied 21 goals and six assists last fall, claiming All-County honors in field hockey. She has helped lift the Blue Devils to back to back nine victory seasons and playoff appearances the past two seasons.
The junior is also an accomplished ice hockey player. “I’ve played ice hockey since I was six years old,” Ms. Mitek said. “It has shaped me as a player and person. It has shown me what it means to be a good teammate but also a good friend and person. It has helped me as a field hockey player as well on and off the field in so many ways.”
Ms. Mitek also plays on the Blue Devil girls’ lacrosse team that won Suffolk and Long Island titles last spring. In the most recent marking period, her weighted academic grade average exceeded 98.
“My overall experience at Huntington has been great,” Ms. Mitek said. “Through sports at Huntington, I’ve met some of my closest friends and built relationships that have made my high school experience really meaningful. Huntington is truly built around an amazing supportive environment.”
