Robbie Campbell wrapped up his junior year at Huntington High School with an All-State performance in the NYSPHSAA Track & Field Championships at Webster Schroeder High School outside of Rochester.

The Huntington star finished fifth overall in Class A – Big Schools. Teammate Eric Heinz was also strong in the event, placing thirteenth.

Campbell starred on Huntington’s varsity boys’ soccer team last fall and also kicked field goals, extra points and kick offs for the football team under a waiver submitted by Huntington UFSD and approved by Section XI.

Campbell played basketball with the Blue Devils in grades 7-10, but turned his attention exclusively to indoor and outdoor track and field this year as a junior. The switch has paid off for the teenager.

The pentathlon is viewed as a true test of athleticism and Campbell passed it with flying colors. The event consists of five separate events, including the 110m intermediate hurdles, 1500 run, high jump, shot put and long jump.

Huntington head coach Ronald E. Wilson thought Campbell would enjoy the challenges posed by track and field. “Robbie likes to set high goals for himself and then work very hard to reach them,” the coach said. “The pentathlon is especially challenging, but look at how splendidly well Robbie performed in it, bring All-State honors home to Huntington.”
