June 25, 2026

The school year wrapped up in fine fashion at Southdown Primary School with Principal Jill Amott-Erwig and teachers presenting Star of the Month Awards for June to a group of enthusiastic and hardworking students.

The honorees included: Universal Pre-Kindergarten: Lola Dunston, Oliver Hughes; Kindergarten: Klara Pflumm, Joshua Rivera Anaya, Liam Mohammed, Olivia Mervartova Breeding; First Grade: Alice Gallienne, Leonard Finlayson, Mathias Ticas Castro; Second Grade: Nicole Martinez Villatoro, Ava Coppinger, Madison Quintanilla, Olivia Hults; Third Grade: Alisson Guevara Benitez, Cameran Kalmar, Dayana Alvarez, Nathaly Coreas Robles

Ms. Amott-Erwig let the honorees know how proud she is of them and what a pleasure it is to recognize them with an award as they head off for a well-deserved break during July and August.

Southdown is the home of the dolphins, the school’s mascot. Students are awarded “splashes” for displaying positive behavior in the classroom and out and about the building, including being kind to others, demonstrating proper behavior in hallways and even boosting the spirits of someone feeling a little down.

Each month, one Southdown student is selected from each class in the building for formal recognition.

“We have had a great year at Southdown School,” Ms. Amott-Erwig said. “We wish everyone a safe, happy and fun summer. And don’t forget to read every chance you get.”
