A Huntington UFSD music department traveling party consisting of 33 students recently trekked into Manhattan, meeting la Familia Madrigal at David Geffen Hall in Lincoln Center to see the New York Philharmonic perform “Disney’s Encanto in Concert” as part of its “The Art of the Score” concert series.
The moving performance featured songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda and music by Germaine Franco, who was in attendance, and was conducted by Nicholas Hersh.
“It was a truly amazing experience where not only did the students get to see the movie “Encanto, with the music performed live, but they got to see it performed by one of the world’s greatest orchestras,” said Dr. Giachetti, Huntington High School band director and trip coordinator.
Past trips to the New York Philharmonic have included performances of E.T., Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Bugs Bunny at the Symphony, Amadeus, Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back, and Disney’s Fantasia.
“It is so wonderful to provide our students with the opportunities that they will remember for a lifetime,” said Robert J. Wottawa, II, district director of fine and performing arts. “Visiting Lincoln Center alone is a learning experience let alone hearing the New York Philharmonic perform! We have amazing teachers who truly love to share these varied experiences with our children!”
