Jolie Weinschreider Wins HFD Frank Carino Award

July 8, 2026

Former Huntington Fire Department Chief Neil Getter presented the Frank Carino Award for Athletics to Class of 2026 member Jolie Weinschreider, one of the top high school lacrosse players in the country. The award carries with it a $500 stipend.

Ex-Chief Getter made the presentation to Ms. Weinschreider at Huntington High School’s senior scholarships and awards ceremony. The Carino Award is given annually to the top athlete in the graduating class. The teenager plans to study psychology at Rutgers University where she has been recruited to play on the college’s NCAA Division I lacrosse team.

“Jolie’s athletic achievements are truly impressive,” said Lauren Blackburn, a Huntington High School physical education team and the girls’ lacrosse team’s assistant coach. She also clearly approaches her academics with the same discipline and commitment that she brings to the field and court. What sets Jolie apart is her character. She is kind, genuine, and inclusive, making everyone feel valued and supported. She has a natural ability to make others feel comfortable and confident, and she leads with both strength and compassion. Her positive attitude and sense of humor help create a team environment where everyone can thrive.”

Ms. Weinschreider tallied 55 goals and 25 assists this spring, playing a key role in Huntington winning Suffolk, Long Island and New York State girls’ lacrosse titles. The state title marked the first ever one for the Huntington girls’ lax program.

“Jolie will continue her lacrosse career at Rutgers University, and there is no doubt she will bring the same leadership, integrity and positivity to her next chapter,” Ms. Blackburn said. “She is a remarkable student-athlete who truly exemplifies the values of this scholarship, making her an incredibly deserving nominee.”
