Huntington is Hosting League III Wrestling Tournament

Huntington High School will play host to the Section XI League III wrestling tournament for the first time in many years on Saturday, February 7. The Blue Devils will be joined by opponents from North Babylon, Connetquot, Commack, Copiague and Newfield.

Weighs for the wrestlers are set for 8-9 a.m. with a coaches scratch meeting scheduled for 9 a.m. Preliminary and quarterfinal rounds will start at 9:30 a.m. on three mats. The consolation quarterfinals will be wrestled on three mats commencing at 1 p.m.

The semifinals will be contested on two mats beginning at 1:40 p.m. The consolation semifinals are set for 3 p.m. on two mats with finals following on one mat at 4:30 p.m.

Coaches will gather for a seeding meeting on Thursday, February 5 at 6 p.m. at Huntington High School. In case of inclement weather the tournament will be moved to Sunday.

Huntington is coached by Andy Marlow, Anthony Annunziata and Travis Smith. The Blue Devil frontline varsity includes Jose Gonzalez, Jason Bencivenga, Chris Granito, Dante Francis, Rasiere Blizzard, Charlie Cirlincione, Walter Kusterbeck, Joe Conklin, Gevonne Henderson, Kingsley Evans, Vincent Pupillo, Jose Quintanilla, Will Peters and Danny Cabrera.

Every team is permitted to enter two wrestlers into each of the 14 weight classes. All matches are varsity level. The four placewinners in each weight class will advance to the Suffolk Division I tournament on February 14-15 at Stony Brook University.
