Huntington Highlights: Jackie Apelsinov Serves Up Kindness at Flower Hill School

February 23, 2026

Flower Hill Primary School cafeteria manager Jackie Apelsinov works hard to keep students in the building happy, serving fresh, tasty food daily with a smile on her face. She takes pride in the kitchen and menu and nothing makes her happier than watching children enjoying a good meal.

“Jackie is an incredible asset to our primary school community,” Flower Hill Principal Cindy Siegel said. “She is wonderful with our students, always greeting them with warmth and care and creating a welcoming cafeteria environment where children feel valued. Jackie maintains an immaculate and well-organized kitchen, consistently upholding high standards of cleanliness, safety, and efficiency. Beyond her daily responsibilities, she is actively involved in our school community, participating in events and supporting school-wide initiatives.”

Keeping an extraordinarily clean kitchen is a labor of love for Ms. Apelsinov. “Jackie is the heart of our cafeteria,” Ms. Siegel said. “She goes above and beyond every day, building meaningful connections with our children. We are incredibly fortunate to have her as part of our school family.”

The Flower Hill staff member is the ninth teacher or staff member to be profiled as part of a new “Huntington Highlights” initiative that provides community members with insight into teachers and support staff members who toil at the district’s eight individual school buildings.

“Jackie also plays an important role in our PBIS (positive behavioral interventions and supports) program by reinforcing positive behaviors and expectations with students,” Ms. Siegel said. “Her dedication, positivity and genuine care for our school make her truly exceptional and we are grateful for all that she does.”
