Huntington Highlights: School Psychologist Chrissy Martino is a Dedicated Professional

February 13, 2026

Washington Primary School psychologist Christina Martino is “worth her weight in gold,” as the saying goes. The veteran faculty member is an essential member of the building’s educational team and is both respected and valued by her colleagues.

“Mrs. Martino is a vital resource for students, families, faculty, and staff at Washington,” Principal Michelle J. Richards said. “She consistently goes above and beyond to support students and families, ensuring their needs are met with care and dedication. Through thoughtfully facilitated meetings, she helps identify student needs and promotes meaningful collaboration between families and faculty, fostering an environment where students can thrive both academically and social and emotionally.”

Mrs. Martino graduated from Stony Brook University with a BA degree in psychology in 1999. She obtained a master’s degree in school psychology at Long Island University in 2013.

Mrs. Martino attended Smithtown Christian School for high school. “I knew that I wanted to be a school psychologist during my college years,” she said.

The Washington School faculty member began her career as a leave replacement school psychologist at Park Avenue Memorial Elementary School in Amityville in 2013. She later served in a similar role at Developmental Disabilities Institute before joining the Huntington UFSD team in September 2014.

The Washington faculty member is the eighth teacher or staff member to be profiled as part of a new “Huntington Highlights” initiative that provides community members with insight into teachers and support staff members who toil at the district’s eight individual school buildings.

“My experience working as a school psychologist in Huntington has been very positive,” Mrs. Martino said. “It’s been defined by collaboration and community. There is a strong sense that we are all working towards the common goal of supporting our students academically, socially and emotionally. This environment has allowed me to continue to develop professionally and feel invested in the work we are doing. Working in Huntington has been a very rewarding experience.

Outside of school, Mrs. Martino’s interests include interior design, spending time with her family and shopping.

“Mrs. Martino is a dedicated, compassionate, and knowledgeable mental health provider who shows up for her families and her colleagues,” Dr. Richards said.
