Huntington Softball Team Conducts Clothing Drive Fundraiser
February 9, 2026
The Huntington High School softball team is in the midst of a clothing drive fundraiser. The Blue Devils are asking for the help of everyone to make the initiative a success.
The drive will run through March 20 at 5 p.m. It is being held in cooperation with Go Green Clothing Recycling. Proceeds from the drive will be used to enhance the program and the player experience. All of the items can be dropped off at the high school at the security booth; front entrance or gym lobby.
“We are accepting new and gently used items, such as clothing, shoes, jackets, handbags, jewelry, etc. as well as linens, bedding, toys, sporting equipment, small household electronics and goods,” Blue Devil head coach Jake Torres said. “We aren’t accepting VHS tapes, CDs, books, furniture, fragile or large items.”
The varsity and junior varsity softball players and coaches are happy to be going green for their annual fundraiser. Torres is in his first season as head coach and he is looking to instill a community minded philosophy.
“Going green can mean a lot of different things; using less energy, recycling more, choosing reusable over disposable,” according to the Go Green Clothing Drive website. “At Go Green Clothing Drive, it starts with something simple: helping people give their used clothing a second life instead of sending it to a landfill. We believe small actions, taken together, can create real change. That's why we partner with schools, businesses, sports teams, dance studios, community groups, and anyone looking for a “green” way to raise funds for their organization. We make it easy for people to raise funds for their cause while only asking participants to clean out their closets.”
Go Green Clothing notes that billions of pounds of clothing are thrown away in the US every year. “Most of it ends up in landfills, even though much of it could be reused or recycled,” the company said. “According to the EPA, the average American throws away around 81 pounds of clothing annually. It adds up quickly - and it doesn't have to. At Go Green Clothing Drive, our mission is to keep as much clothing out of the waste stream as possible. We do that by making it simple and accessible to donate through organized clothing drives.”
