Bittersweet Thoughts at Blue Devil Boys’ Basketball Senior Day
February 6, 2026
Bittersweet. It was a word heard over and over at the Huntington High School boys’ basketball team’s Senior Day ceremony in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium. The Blue Devils recognized five seniors who have meant so much to the program over the years.
Huntington head coach Peter Lipka took the microphone and waded out onto the court to talk about Jermine Campbell, Henry Gerberg, Jordan Jones, Nicholas Normoyle and Henry Stein. The players were joined by their parents on the court.
Lipka spoke about each player’s history in the program, offered his insights into each and announced their college plans to cheers from the crowd.
The players and their family members posed for a series of commemorative both individually and as a group. Naturally there were some emotions on display. Everyone is excited about moving forward toward college, career and personal fulfillment. But no one is ready to take off their Blue Devil uniform for the final time. So, yes, there are bittersweet feelings.
Graduation day is creeping closer. So every minute on the basketball court with their teammates is being cherished by each of the seniors.
The Senior Day game that followed the ceremony was itself followed by a team party planned by parents in the school cafeteria.
