Trustees Approve College Advanced Placement Pre-Calculus Option

April 27, 2026

Huntington School Board members have approved a new course option for College Advanced Placement Pre-Calculus through Siena College. Huntington students will be able to earn three college credits for the course at the vastly reduced cost of $225.

The district’s Subject Matter Council approved the new course on February 3 and the Educational Development Committee gave its consent on February 5. Trustees followed with their approval on March 24. The new course will be implemented for the 2026/27 school year.

Estimated annual registration for the full year course is 25 juniors and seniors. “This course will cover the essential content of Siena College’s Calculus MAT 101 course and the College Board’s AP Precalculus coursework, including topics that extend beyond the study of functions in Algebra 2, including zeroes and graphs of polynomial functions, graphs and asymptotes of rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, introduction to trigonometry, angle measurement, right triangle trigonometry and properties and graphs of trigonometric functions,” states the course description.

Assistant Superintendent Brenden Cusack told trustees that any student who meets the income requirement for free or reduced price lunch may obtain college credit free of charge. “Additionally, Siena provides extensive training, resources, assessment materials and networking opportunities for teachers,” Mr. Cusack said.
