Arly Moreira Portillo Captures Award of Merit in Photo Contest

April 15, 2026

Huntington senior Arly Moreira Portillo captured an Award of Merit in the Huntington Camera Club's Roberta Strent Memorial Photography Competition.

The Huntington Camera Club's Darin Reed presented the award to Arly Moreira.

“I had the honor of presenting Arly with her award and sharing her work with the club and our many guests at the awards ceremony,” said famed local photographer Darin Reed, a Huntington alum. “Arly is a gifted artist with a deep understanding of the power of visual communication. Her maturity and vision is remarkable.  She is an outstanding representative of the Huntington School District and our Fine Arts Department. Her work is beautiful, powerful and moving.

Ms. Moreira’s award included a $100 reward “and my deepest admiration,” Mr. Reed said.

According to its website:

The Huntington Camera Club (HCC) was founded in 1966 to provide beginning and advanced photographers an opportunity to improve their photographic skills, meet like-minded people - who are also interested in photography, and provide a fun, supportive forum for the sharing of their photographs. Membership is open to everyone with an interest in photography, regardless of their skill level. The Club offers instructional programming, entertaining multi-media presentations, judged competitions, field trips, guest lectures by well-known photographic artists, and other events including special dinners and a family picnic.

The Club maintains an active profile in the community. Through dues, the generosity of individuals and various grants and awards, it has cataloged Huntington's historical homes, produced a multi-media show on "A Week in the Life of Huntington," taught photography to children at the Sunrise Day Camp, photographed shows and concerts for the Huntington Art Council’s Summer Series at Heckscher Park, conducts an annual photo competition for high school students, and provides a generous scholarship to a high school student interested in pursuing photography at the college level.
