Huntington Highlights: School Counselor Paloma Ramlogan

The Huntington Union Free School District is proud to recognize Paloma Ramlogan, a dedicated school counselor at J. Taylor Finley Middle School, as part of our Huntington Highlights series celebrating the exceptional professionals who make a difference in the lives of our students and families each day.

Ms. Ramlogan joined the Huntington school community in September 2018, bringing with her several years of experience supporting students and families. She began her career with the New York City Department of Education in September 2014, serving as a bilingual school counselor in Queens. Since coming to Huntington, she has distinguished herself through her compassion, professionalism and unwavering commitment to the academic, social-emotional and personal well-being of her students.

A graduate of Queens College, Ms. Ramlogan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology before completing a Master of Science in Education in School Counseling with a Bilingual Extension. She later earned her administrative certification from the College of Saint Rose.

Ms. Ramlogan's bilingual skills have been an invaluable asset to the Huntington school community. Her ability to communicate with students and families in their preferred language helps ensure that language is never a barrier to accessing information, resources or support. Beyond her counseling responsibilities, she regularly provides written translation services for the district, primarily assisting the central administration with important communications to families.

Her contributions continue to grow. This school year, Ms. Ramlogan was appointed to serve as the Honor Society Advisor at J. Taylor Finley Middle School, providing her with another opportunity to mentor students and encourage academic achievement, leadership and service.

Director of K-12 School Counseling and Testing Ricky Papandrea praised Ms. Ramlogan for consistently going above and beyond for her students.

"Paloma exemplifies what it means to be a student-centered school counselor," Mr. Papandrea said. "She brings compassion, dedication and genuine care to everything she does, and she consistently goes above and beyond to advocate for her students."

Whether helping a student navigate an academic challenge, supporting a family through a difficult situation or collaborating with teachers and administrators to identify the resources a student needs, Ms. Ramlogan approaches her work with patience, empathy and an individualized focus. She has built strong and meaningful relationships with students and families and works tirelessly to ensure that every child feels heard, valued and supported.

Taylor Finley Middle School said. "Paloma is deeply committed to ensuring that every student feels seen, supported and empowered to succeed."

Through nearly a decade of service as a school counselor and eight years as a member of the Huntington school community, Ms. Ramlogan has demonstrated the tremendous impact that a caring, student-centered professional can have. Her advocacy, compassion and commitment to helping others embody the very best of Huntington UFSD and make her an outstanding choice for this Huntington Highlight.
