Huntington UFSD Completes Extensive Summer Facility Improvements Across District Schools

While students and staff were enjoying the summer months, work was underway throughout the Huntington Union Free School District to prepare buildings for the start of another successful school year. From major capital improvements to the extensive annual work performed by the District’s Buildings & Grounds Department, this summer brought significant improvements to facilities across the District.

At Huntington High School, the auditorium underwent an extensive modernization that has transformed the technical and production capabilities of one of the District’s most widely used performance spaces. The project included an entirely new theatrical rigging system, new stage lighting and a complete state-of-the-art sound system, providing dramatically enhanced sound quality and production capabilities. Two new screens, a drop screen and a cyclorama were also installed, giving students and staff significantly greater flexibility in staging theatrical productions, concerts, ceremonies, presentations and other events.

The auditorium improvements also included the replacement of seating in the upper balcony, further enhancing the experience for those attending performances and events. Together, these improvements bring modern performance technology to the Huntington High School stage and provide students with the opportunity to work and perform in a sophisticated production environment. Whether supporting music, theater, school programs or community events, the renovated auditorium represents a substantial investment in a space that will serve Huntington students and the broader school community for many years to come.

Significant improvements were also completed to the visitor restrooms at Huntington High School. The existing bathrooms were completely gutted and remodeled, resulting in modernized facilities designed to better accommodate the needs of students, staff and visitors. In addition to bringing the spaces into ADA compliance, the renovations increased their capacity, allowing more individuals to utilize the facilities during the school day and during the many performances, athletic events, ceremonies and community activities hosted at the high school.

Several important infrastructure and safety improvements were also completed at the District’s primary buildings. These projects included electrical and switchgear upgrades, as well as the installation of fire-rated doors. While improvements of this nature may not always be as visible as a renovated auditorium or new restroom facilities, they represent critical investments in the safety, reliability and long-term operation of District buildings.

Alongside these capital improvements, Huntington’s Buildings & Grounds team spent the summer completing the tremendous amount of work required to prepare each school for opening day. Classrooms, offices and common areas were thoroughly cleaned and prepared, floors were cleaned and refinished, repairs and preventative maintenance were completed, and countless other details were addressed throughout the District.

The summer months provide a limited window to accomplish major construction and maintenance projects while minimizing disruption to students and instructional programs. Completing this volume of work requires significant planning and coordination among District administrators, Buildings & Grounds personnel, contractors and other partners.

The District extends its sincere appreciation to the entire Buildings & Grounds team for their tremendous efforts throughout the summer. Much of their work happens behind the scenes, but it plays an essential role in maintaining safe, clean, functional and welcoming learning environments for Huntington’s students and staff.

With another productive summer of improvements complete, Huntington UFSD continues its commitment to maintaining and investing in facilities that support students today while protecting and improving the District’s buildings and infrastructure for years to come.
