HUFSD Honors the 25th Anniversary of September 11

At the September 22, 2026 Board of Education meeting, the Huntington Union Free School District paused to remember and honor the lives forever changed by the events of September 11, 2001, as we mark the 25th anniversary of that tragic day.

The evening provided an opportunity for our school community to reflect not only on the tremendous loss experienced by so many, but also on the extraordinary sense of unity, compassion and support that emerged in its aftermath.

A special thank you goes to our HUFSD Chamber Choir for their beautiful and moving choral tribute, under the director of Mr. Charles Colasanti. Their performances of the National Anthem and “God Bless America” provided a meaningful and heartfelt opening to the evening and reminded us of the strength that comes from coming together as a community.

We are also grateful to Theresa Sullivan, Board of Education President for the thoughtful sentiments shared about the importance of truly never forgetting September 11 and the remarkable unity and support that followed. The reflection served as an important reminder that while we remember the lives lost and the families and communities forever impacted, we must also carry forward the spirit of compassion, kindness and togetherness that was so evident in the days and weeks following the tragedy.

The evening concluded with a moment of silence and a moving musical tribute as Christopher Nunn and Logan Tine performed “Taps.” Their heartfelt performance offered a quiet and solemn moment of remembrance and reflection.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor those we lost, those who served, those who responded, and all those whose lives were forever changed. As a school community, we remain committed to remembering September 11 and to carrying forward the values of unity, compassion and support that brought people together during one of our nation's most difficult moments.

We are grateful to all who helped make this tribute a meaningful part of our Board of Education meeting and, most importantly, to everyone who continues to ensure that we never forget.
