HUFSD Board of Education Approves 2026–2027 District Goals and Strategic Plan Priorities

At its September 22, 2026 meeting, the Huntington Union Free School District Board of Education approved the District Goals for the 2026–2027 school year and received an update on the district’s Blueprint for Excellence Strategic Plan, which will guide the district’s work through the 2027–2028 school year.

Superintendent Beth McCoy and members of the district’s Cabinet presented the goals and strategic priorities, highlighting a thoughtful and collaborative process that has shaped the district’s direction. The work was developed with input from the administrative team throughout the spring, ensuring that the goals reflect the needs of students, staff and families while providing a purposeful framework for continued growth.

“Our strategic plan provides us with a clear roadmap for the work ahead,” said Superintendent Beth McCoy. “By developing these goals collaboratively with our administrative team and aligning them with our mission, vision and core values, we are creating a focused plan that keeps our students at the center of every decision.”

Four Areas of Focus

The district’s 2026–2027 goals are organized around four priority areas: Academic Excellence, The Student Experience, Operations, and Family and Community Engagement. These areas are designed to support the district’s mission of nurturing the whole child academically, socially and emotionally while providing meaningful opportunities and experiences within a caring environment.

Academic Excellence

The district will empower all students with the foundational and advanced skills, confidence and adaptability needed to thrive in post-secondary education and the modern workforce.

Strategic priorities include continued review of curricular programs and their alignment with New York State Learning Standards, targeted professional development, collaboration with instructional coaches, increased attention to effective practices for supporting English language learners, and thoughtful integration of technology and artificial intelligence into teaching and learning.

The Student Experience

The district will ensure equity, access and enrichment opportunities for all students through developmentally appropriate practices that meet diverse needs and foster growth.

Among the areas identified in the strategic plan are expanding project-based and hands-on learning opportunities, developing partnerships with community organizations, exploring additional enrichment opportunities and courses, and providing students with increased opportunities in the arts, music, financial literacy, life skills and environmental education.

Operations

The district will enhance and ensure safety, security, quality food services and equitable resource allocation, fostering a supportive and well-resourced environment for students and staff.

Strategic priorities include continued communication regarding safety upgrades, drills and procedures, strengthening food service communication, reviewing the district wellness committee, and sharing regular updates with the community regarding district initiatives, activities, food services and security.

Family and Community Engagement

The district will actively engage and empower all families as partners in their child’s educational journey, fostering meaningful involvement and inclusion from early childhood through grade 12.

The plan calls for continued use of ParentSquare, support for newcomer families, maintaining parent liaison roles, strengthening partnerships with PTAs and community organizations, and exploring additional opportunities for families to participate in school and community events.

A Blueprint for Excellence

The strategic plan is grounded in the district’s mission and vision and guided by six core values: Excellence and High Expectations, Children First, Collaboration and Transparency, Compassion and Empathy, Equity and Inclusivity, and Integrity and Respect.

The Blueprint for Excellence extends beyond a single school year, providing a framework for continued progress through the 2027–2028 school year. The plan includes specific priorities for elementary schools, secondary schools and Central Office, allowing each area of the district to identify meaningful actions that support the four overarching district goals.

Across the district, the plan emphasizes continued collaboration, professional learning, student-centered opportunities, effective use of technology, hands-on learning, family partnerships, safety and security, and clear and consistent communication.

The approval of the 2026–2027 District Goals marks an important step in the district’s ongoing strategic planning process. With a shared vision, clearly defined priorities and a commitment to collaboration, the Huntington UFSD administrative team looks forward to a productive year focused on supporting student success and strengthening the educational experience for every member of the Huntington school community.
