Senior Eric Heinz Named National Merit Semi-Finalist

Huntington High School senior Eric Heniz has been named a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist in this year’s contest, placing him among the top half-percent of all Class of 2027 members in the country.

One of the best cross country, indoor and outdoor runners in the state, Mr. Heinz is an All-County and All-State athlete as well as being one of the finest students in Huntington’s senior class. He is well on his way to taking and completing most of the high school’s most challenging honors and Advanced Placement courses and excelling in all of them.

A soft spoken and sensitive young man, Mr. Heinz trains in the fall with Coach Andrew R. Marlow and in the winter and spring with Coach Ronald E. Wilson. He can often be seen working out at Blue Devil Stadium, including extensive training throughout last summer.

Over 1.2 million juniors in about 20,000 high schools entered the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
