Finley Suits Up for New School Year

J. Taylor Finley Middle School on Greenlawn Road is all set for another school year. The building opened in September 1965 and has been in continuous service to the Huntington UFSD community ever since.

Finley’s faculty and staff welcomed the newest students in the building during last week’s seventh grade orientation. The incoming students had an opportunity to meet key members of the educational team, learn more about Finley and begin getting comfortable in their new school.

Following the orientation, students had a chance to walk through their schedules, find their classrooms and practice opening their lockers, helping make the first day feel a little less overwhelming.

“A special thank-you to our National Junior Honor Society members, who welcomed our new students and helped guide and support them as they navigated their schedules and explored the building,” Assistant Principal Alexis Estrada said. “We are so excited to welcome our new seventh graders to Finley and look forward to an amazing year ahead. Welcome to Finley!”

The first day of school was equally cheery. About 550 seventh and eighth graders were greeted with smiles, school spirit and plenty of excitement as they arrived for the first day of a new school year.

“Our Blue Devil was there to welcome students as they entered the building, while members of our administration, including Superintendent Beth McCoy joined in to greet students and help start the year off on a positive note,” Principal Traci Roethel said. “We are so excited to have our hallways filled with students again and look forward to an incredible year together!”
