Bringing Literature to Life at Woodhull!
October 30, 2026
Students in Ms. Mondkar’s sixth grade English Language Arts (ELA) classroom at Woodhull Intermediate School explored the powerful themes of bullying, empathy, and kindness through Ray Bradbury’s short story All Summer in a Day.
After reading the story, students reflected on the impact of bullying and the importance of treating others with compassion and respect. They demonstrated their understanding by writing thoughtful summaries in their own words and creating original artwork and illustrations that brought their interpretations of the story to life.
This engaging learning experience encouraged students to think critically, make meaningful real-world connections, and consider how their words and actions can affect others. Through a combination of reading, writing, and artistic expression, students strengthened their literacy skills while developing a deeper understanding of empathy and the importance of creating a welcoming and inclusive school community.
Ms. Mondkar’s classroom provided a wonderful example of how literacy, creativity, and character education come together to support students’ academic and social emotional growth at Woodhull!
