Huntington High School Freshmen Get into the Halloween Spirit with The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

October 28, 2026

Grade Nine students at Huntington High School got into the Halloween spirit this week after reading Washington Irving’s classic tale, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” On Wednesday, students enjoyed a condensed, one-period adaptation of the story performed by four actors from Stages on the Sound, a New York City-based nonprofit educational organization that is a collection of innovative professional theater artists.

The talented performers took on multiple roles throughout the production and even invited students to join in the fun by volunteering to participate. Several enthusiastic freshmen stepped up to the challenge! Among the student volunteers were Period 2 students Grace Gonzalez, Cayden Mollica, Kristofer (KJ) Mayes, and Anthony (AJ) Aguilar Gomez (pictured), along with Period 8 students Sam Simon, Arjun Mehta, Ryan Buscemi, Byron Jimenez, and Dante Valentin (pictured).

The following day, the actors returned for a personalized encore. The actors worked in groups of 2-3 to visit the English 9 classrooms to deepen student understanding of the story. They began the class by having all the students stand up and engage in vocal warm-ups. After, students were asked to recall details from the story and build a live timeline of events.

The performance offered students an engaging and memorable way to bring Irving’s spooky classic to life while celebrating the Halloween season!
