Fourth-Grade Teachers Focus on Strengthening Reading and Writing

Fourth grade teachers from across Huntington recently came together for professional learning focused on strengthening students’ reading and writing.

During the session, teachers reviewed writing samples, discussed what helps students move from basic understanding to deeper thinking, and explored practical ways to support stronger written responses. The work was connected to the Science of Reading and the district’s current ELA curriculum resources, giving teachers strategies they can use right away in their classrooms.

The session also provided time for teachers from both schools to collaborate, share ideas, and plan next steps for instruction.

The goal is to continue building on the strong work already happening in Huntington by using effective strategies that help students understand what they read, explain their thinking clearly, and grow as confident readers and writers.
