AP Precalculus Students Make Connections Through Rational Functions
October 27, 2026
Students in Mr. Moriarty’s AP Precalculus class worked collaboratively in small teams to deepen their understanding of rational functions through an engaging matching activity. Students were challenged to match equations with their corresponding graphs, identifying how specific features within each equation influenced the graphical characteristics of the function.
Beyond matching equations and graphs, students also connected their functions to written descriptions and representations using limit notation. This required them to draw upon multiple mathematical concepts, analyze relationships, and demonstrate a deeper understanding of how rational functions can be represented in different ways.
By bringing together these concepts in one comprehensive activity, students strengthened their analytical and problem-solving skills while learning from one another. The collaborative format encouraged teamwork, mathematical discussion, and the sharing of knowledge, helping students develop a more complete understanding of rational functions.
