Huntington Students Celebrate and Thank the Board of Education
October 21, 2026
The Huntington Union Free School District proudly celebrated Board of Education Appreciation Week by showcasing the creativity, talent, and gratitude of its students during a recent Board of Education meeting. Through musical performances, original artwork, student-designed calendars, and a special video tribute, Huntington students found meaningful ways to recognize the dedication and service of the district’s Board of Education members.
The evening featured a special performance by a student string quartet, organized and prepared by James DiMeglio. The talented ensemble included Eva Richter and Olivia Lee on violin, Chloe Donovan on cello, and Manpreet Kaur on bass. The students delighted the audience with performances of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Minuet & Trio and Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams, demonstrating their musical ability and the breadth of their repertoire. Their performance was a wonderful reminder of the talent nurtured through Huntington’s Fine and Performing Arts programs.
Art also played a central role in the evening’s celebration. Beginning in May, Nicholas Matarazzo and Jackie Plesent curated student artwork and collaborated to develop a calendar featuring the creativity of Huntington’s young artists, with the assistance of Janet O’Neill. Each Board of Education member and Cabinet member received a calendar showcasing the remarkable artistic talents of the district’s students.
Students from Washington Primary School and Flower Hill Primary School were present to share in the celebration. Washington students included Caden Carter, Dillinger Katsoulas, Nora Byrnes, and Andrea Velasquez Buezo. Representing Flower Hill Primary School were Sailenis Tayupanda Guzman and Taylor Martin. Their participation highlighted the importance of providing students with opportunities to share their work and recognize the people who serve their school community.
Adding to the evening’s visual celebration, Jack Abrams Intermediate School students contributed artwork that was displayed on the Board tables. A special display board filled with messages of appreciation and thanks further conveyed the district’s gratitude for the Board’s ongoing commitment to Huntington’s students, staff, and families.
Students from Woodhull Intermediate School also joined in the celebration by creating a special “Thank You” video that was shared with the Board of Education. This thoughtful tribute provided another opportunity for students to express their appreciation and recognize the Board members’ service to the Huntington school community.
“Board of Education Appreciation Week provides a wonderful opportunity to recognize the dedication of our Board members and celebrate the extraordinary talents of our students,” said Superintendent of Schools Beth McCoy. “I am so proud of our Fine and Performing Arts students and grateful to the teachers who nurture their creativity and provide opportunities for them to shine. Through their music, artwork, calendars, and thoughtful video tribute, our students made the evening especially meaningful.”
The celebration reflected the spirit of the Huntington school community, where creativity, collaboration, and appreciation are valued and encouraged. The district extends its sincere thanks to the students and staff who helped make the evening memorable and to the Board of Education members for their continued service and dedication to the children of Huntington.
