Kindergarten Mathematicians Explore Patterns, Counting and Number Sense
October 6, 2026
Kindergarten students in Ms. Vides’ class are off to an exciting start in math as they build foundational skills and develop confidence as young mathematicians!
Students have been exploring important early math concepts, including AB patterns, counting, and sequencing numbers from 1 to 4. Working collaboratively in small groups, students created three different patterns on chart paper. As they worked, they shared ideas, listened to their classmates, and practiced communicating their mathematical thinking.
Following their pattern work, students participated in a gallery walk, giving them an opportunity to view, discuss, and celebrate the work of their peers. This hands-on experience reinforced the idea that there can be different ways to represent mathematical thinking while encouraging students to learn from one another.
Students have also been developing their number sense by practicing counting forward within four and placing numbers on a number line. To make their learning tactile and engaging, students used stickers to represent numbers, providing a concrete way to connect quantities with numerals.
Through collaboration, hands-on activities, and meaningful mathematical conversations, Ms. Vides’ students are building a strong foundation for future learning. It is wonderful to see our youngest mathematicians growing in confidence, curiosity, and understanding!
