Belinda Velasquez Maldonado is one of 2026’s Best

May 29, 2026

Belinda Velasquez Maldonado is without question one of Huntington’s best. The Class of 2026 member was honored as a Distinguished Senior earlier this spring after compiling an academic grade average of 91 throughout all high school courses.

“My parents’ sacrifices and hard work has always pushed me to be successful,” Ms. Velasquez said. “As the oldest daughter I have to lead by example and try my best to be the best for myself and my family. Some things I liked the best about my time in high school was my involvement in clubs, not only that but taking different classes and learning different perspectives and understanding the world around me better.”

Ms. Velasquez has enjoyed a fun-filled experience at Huntington, including competing on the high school’s Science Olympiad team, playing flag football, volunteering with Grandfriends and participating in various clubs and conferences.

“I really enjoyed homecoming activities and bonfire! Some highlights of my extracurricular involvement include planning events such as Cultural Night, Key Club Target Tours, and volunteering at the Sunrise Senior Citizens Center for Grandfriends,” Ms. Velasquez said. “These experiences have brought me a sense of fulfillment while helping me develop strong character.”

Ms. Velasquez plans to study healthcare administration at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York.
