H-ton Girls’ Lax Hosts Northport Today at 5 p.m.

May 26, 2026

The Huntington girls’ lacrosse team always knew it would have to go through Northport’s powerful squad to have any chance of repeating as Suffolk champions. That game will be played today as the Blue Devils host the Tigers at 5 p.m. at Alumni Field. Tickets are only available online. Go to: https://gofan.co/event/6657160?schoolId=NYSPHSAAXI Fans who are 12 years old and younger will be admitted free.

Huntington (15-2) has won 33 games over the past two years, including last year’s county and Long Island championships. The Blue Devils are led by co-head coaches Meg Marinelli and Chris Taylor, assistant coach Lauren Blackburn and volunteer assistant Lauren Schwalje.

Huntington will be led into battle by some of Suffolk’s most powerful offensive players, including Valentina Puccio (57 goals; 13 assists), Jolie Weinschreider (47g; 21a), Olivia Puccio (35g; 22a); Grace Gordon (27g; 34a), Bridget Callery (15g; 11a) and Ava Bencivenga (13g; 7a).

Huntington’s stubborn defense includes sophomore goalkeeper Juliet Johnson (99 saves), Ava McDonald, Claire Dello-Iacono, Izzy Palacios, Madyn Kalb and Leighton Evans.

The Blue Devils have perhaps the strongest bench on Long Island and several players regularly come off of it to rotate into the game.

Huntington has outscored its opponents this spring by a 204-70 margin. Northport (14-1) has scored 224 goals and surrendered 77 goals.

Hall of Famer Carol Rainson-Rose has coached Northport since 1990 and has won nearly 550 games. She was Marinelli’s high school coach before Huntington’s sideline mentor went on the play at Georgetown.

The Blue Devils topped visiting Longwood in the county quarterfinals last week, 15-6. Valentina Puccio had five goals and an assist and Olivia Puccio tallied four goals and two assists. Weinschreider scored four goals and won 10 draw controls. McDonald caused seven Longwood turnovers and scooped up five groundballs. Johnson was great in goal.

The winner of today’s game will advance to the county championship game on Sunday at 10 a.m. at Stony Brook University.
