Huntington’s Cameron Smith Chooses Gettysburg College
May 20, 2026
Choosing a college to attend typically has many ups and downs, twists and turns and so it did for Huntington High School senior Cameron Smith. Everything ended in a good place as the teenager intends to study education at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania.
Ms. Smith has been a key player on the Blue Devil varsity soccer and lacrosse teams, winning All-Division and All-County honors. She helped Huntington end decades of frustration last spring when the girls’ lacrosse team won Suffolk and Long Island titles.
“The key to my success has been staying actively involved in the school community,” Ms. Smith said. “Throughout high school, I made the effort to participate in as many opportunities as possible, from academics to athletics to clubs. Being involved allowed me to build strong relationships with my peers and teachers. Athletics have been the most meaningful part of my high school experience. Playing varsity soccer and varsity lacrosse helped build a strong sense of community and family among my teammates. The relationships and memories made both on and off the field over the past four years are something I will always value.”
Ms. Smith has served as president of the Blue Devil Varsity Club over the past year, representing the interests of team captains and all male and female players. She was a regular in the athletic office and she contributed ideas, provided feedback on existing programs and offered suggestions for possible initiatives that will pay dividends far into the future.
The senior has also volunteered with the high school’s Habitat for Humanity chapter and the Latin Club. She sits on the Section XI Student Athlete Advisory Committee as a representative.
A member of five separate academic honor societies at Huntington High School, her academic achievements and grades earned across all disciplines are absolutely impeccable.
Ms. Smith seriously considered Villanova, Union and several other top tier colleges, before deciding that Gettysburg offered her the right fit academically, socially and every other possible way.
