Huntington UFSD Celebrates Speech Language Pathologists
May 14, 2026
Huntington UFSD is celebrating its speech language pathologists who do so much behind the scenes to assist those with communication disorders and disabilities.
Huntington UFSD’s speech language pathologists include Marisa Amato, Stephanie Affrunti, Margaret Connors, Yafit Lucas, Risa Brachman, Danielle Lopez, Jenna Milewski, Angela Allegretti, Kaitlyn Moran, Sarah Macaluso, Sandy Ramos, Nicole Smith, Kathryn Carey and Patricia Klee.
“We proudly recognize and thank our exceptional speech-language pathologists for the vital role they play in supporting our students’ communication and language development,” Superintendent Beth McCoy said. “Their expertise, patience, and dedication help students build the skills and confidence they need to express themselves, connect with others, and thrive both academically and socially. We are deeply grateful for the meaningful difference they make in the lives of our children and families every day.”
Speech language pathologists work with those who display expressive and mixed receptive-expressive language disorders, such as:
• Voice disorders
• Speech sound disorders
• Speech disfluency
• Pragmatic language impairments
• Social communication difficulties
• Swallowing disorders
Speech Pathology Week is an event that happens every year to promote the speech pathology profession. It highlights the important role speech pathologists play in supporting those with communication or swallowing difficulties.
The speech language pathology field began growth in the 1920’s as speech pathologists focused on treating soldiers returning from war. Today, throughout America, over 119,000 speech language pathologists work in a variety of fields. You’ll find speech language pathologists in hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes, schools, early intervention settings, universities and private practices.
In 2010, the United States dedicated May 18 as National Speech Pathologist Day; a day to recognize these incredible individuals.
