Huntington Seniors Excel in Seal of Civic Readiness Program

Twenty-two Huntington High School students who qualified to have the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness on their diplomas captured platinum recognition, the highest level of distinction offered by Huntington High School’s program. Last year, seven seniors qualified.

The Huntington students included Ethan Ambrosio (Hamilton College), Alexandra Balm (Indiana University Bloomington), Kily Barch (Boston College), Jordana Boxer (Cornell University), Charlotte Cassatto (Binghamton University), Kathleen Cocoman (Bucknell University), Isabella Cruz Ponce (CUNY Hunter College), Kymora Dorvilus (Sacred Heart University), Carly Gallagher (Hofstra University), Gabriela Genao (Hofstra University), Erin Hanlon (American University), Emely Herrera Rivas (Cornell University), Matthew Jimenez (SUNY Geneseo), Mia Kaufman (College of William & Mary), Walter Kusterbeck (Southeastern University), Jeremyah Leiva (University of Connecticut), Dana Saramago (LIU Post), Jelena Silva-Lucana (Russell Sage College), Jaipreet Singh (Rochester Institute of Technology), Louisa Skrobela (Villanova University), Heileen Torres (Colgate University) and Lily Wasoski (Boston Conservatory at Berklee School of Music).

“These 22 students who have achieved more than double the required level of expectation for receiving the cherished Seal of Civic Readiness, have been deemed ‘leaders of leaders,’” Chairman of Social Studies Joseph Leavy said. “This recognition for these seven students speaks to the fact that they each not only demonstrated sound civic mindsets, and action-based positive civic behavior, but that their leadership by modeling and active path-setting also motivated many others to do the same. Their work, in the form of a highly impactful capstone project, or a series of leadership endeavors, rose to a level that will have a lasting impact on our school and community.”
