Eleven Huntington High School graduating seniors were presented with Advanced Placement Capstone Achievement Awards by the district’s Director of ELA & Reading Dr. Gretchen Rodney. The teenagers completed a pair of rigorous full year courses.

Kiley Barch (Boston College), Jordana Boxer (Cornell University), Emma Boyle (Boston University), Charlotte Cassatto (Binghamton University), Ruby Hoffman (Villanova University), Rachel Huth (Duke University), Braid Martin (University of South Carolina), Marin Mullaly (Penn State University), Emma Polinsky (University of Virginia), Louisa Skrobela (Villanova University) and Katie Sorto Cabrera (St. John’s University) were all honored.

The group was recognized at the high school’s senior scholarships and awards night ceremony that drew a crowd of about 325 to the auditorium.

The College Board’s AP Capstone is a diploma program featuring two full year courses: AP Seminar and AP Research.

“Rather than teaching subject-specific content, these courses develop students’ skills in research, analysis, evidence-based arguments, collaboration, writing and presenting,” according to the College Board. “Students who complete the two-year program can earn one of two different AP Capstone awards, which are valued by colleges across the United States and around the world.”

AP Seminar is a foundational course in which students explore the complexities of academic and real-world issues. AP Research allows students to deeply explore an academic topic, problem, issue, or idea of individual interest.
