Junior Jack Corcoran’s Eyes Fixed on Golf Goals

Jack Corcoran goes about his business at Huntington High School without fanfare. He fits in perfectly well with everyone else and earns stellar grades. The junior is currently playing on the Blue Devil basketball team, but his real love is golf. The teenager’s eyes are fixed on his goals on the links after winning the Section XI Conference I individual championship last fall.

Mr. Corcoran is surrounded by a talented group of Huntington teammates who are all working hard to bring home a county golf crown next fall. His personal calendar is already filling up with spring and summer golf tournaments throughout the Northeast in an effort to both sharpen and refine his game and continue improving so he can go shot-for-shot with Suffolk’s best.

Huntington head coach Michael Marinello knows what a gem he has in Mr. Corcoran. “Jack is an exceptional young man and a great golfer,” the coach said. “He works hard to improve himself daily. He’s highly regarded by everyone.”

“I’m really excited for the upcoming season and the opportunity to compete with a team full of seniors,” Mr. Corcoran said. “Having that level of experience around me creates a competitive but supportive environment and it pushes all of us to play better. Everyone understands what it takes to prepare compete and represent our school the right way.”

The junior hopes to continue his career on the college level. “Competing in college golf has been a major goal of mine and I’m working hard to prepare for that next step both on and off the course,” he said.

Mr. Corcoran serves as a team captain and he strives to bring focus and consistency to every practice and interschool match. His commitment to improvement is obvious and his leadership skills have helped strengthen the team and set a positive standard for Huntington’s younger players.

Golf is always on the teenager’s mind. “As a golfer, I’ve been working year round to improve my game and get ready for the challenges ahead,” Mr. Corcoran said. “I’m focused on being a leader, staying consistent, and helping the team reach its goals. With the chemistry and experience this group brings, I’m confident we can have a strong and memorable season.”
