Huntington’s Art & Music Honor Societies Induct New Members

Huntington High School’s Art Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society held a joint induction ceremony in the auditorium on Wednesday night, welcoming dozens of new members into the two organizations.
The festivities drew a crowd of about 150 parents along with Superintendent Beth McCoy, Principal Rochelle C. Brown, Assistant Principal Gamal Smith and Director of Fine and Performing Arts Dr. Robert J. Wottawa, II.
The purpose of the Art Honor Society is to inspire and recognize those students who have a profound love or art and demonstrate creative talent. Members work to promote art in the school, community and internationally through various activities and service projects. They help one another to achieve the highest standards and share the importance of art education throughout the district, the community and beyond.
The new members include Angela Abbatiello, Kellen Anderson, Reina Andrade, Emma Barch, Ava Bencivenga, Emma Boyle, Robert Campbell, Rosa Chue Argueta, Kai DeSalvo, Cadence Dondero, Bella Duke, Hennie England, Amanda Ganley, Anya Goleski, Mason Gomez, Alice Hammerquist, Erin Hanlon, Cassidy Harris, Emily Hotine, Julia Hotine, Jamyn Husselbeck, Juliet Johnson, Miranda Kincaid, Alessandra Leotta, Susana Lizama Ayala, Gabriella LoScalzo, Naomi Lyons, Shelby Meystrik, Emma Mortensen, Franklin Mulvaney, Noello Otto, Mary Padovani, Olivia Puccio, Darcy Rimkunas, Maya Schneider, Chris Stanforth, Massi Terrado, Danielle Velarde Gonzalez and Andreana Vlahos.
The new members were asked to recite the NAHS pledge during the induction: “I will in my life, to the best of my ability through my talents in art, help create a more beautiful world for myself, for humankind, and for all living things.”
The group is led by President Keysy Diaz-Campos, Vice President Juan Erazo, Secretary Kalissa Simon, Treasurer Veda Gross, Attendance Coordinator Olivia McGreevy, Graphic Designer Victoria Hart and PR Coordinator Maya Akerman. Art teachers Ayallah Jeddah and Kristin Singer serve as the faculty advisors.
Tri-M Welcomes New Members
The name Tri-M is derived from the international honor society’s original name: Modern Music Masters. Candidates for membership are required to demonstrate scholarship, achievement, leadership and service. The group has traditionally been one of Huntington’s most active and prestigious honor societies.
This year’s Tri-M leadership team includes executive board members Rachel Huth (president), Lily Wasoski (vice president), Julian Canales (secretary), Jeremyah Leiva (treasurer) and Marilyn Mendoza (historian/social media). Teacher James DiMeglio serves as the organization’s faculty advisors.
Ms. Wasoski and Ms. Huth thrilled the crowd with separate performances during the ceremony. They are both immensely talented and their efforts were well received.
The newly inducted members include Patricia Abruzzo, Bella Bernzweig, Kymora Dorvilus, Katherine Duke, Khloe Graham, Veda Gross, Keyri Gudiel, Mia Gulino, Zachary Helgeson, Joseph Herman, Allison Huth, Iliana Jarmolowski, Cecilia Lee, Cole Lima, Nallely Linares Guardado, Walter Lopez Martinez, Luisa Mackey, Clarissa Marcelino-LaQua, Emily McCarthy, Kiera McGuire, Natalie Mullaly, Christopher Nunn, Sara Persampire, Lily Policastro, Sergio Portillo, Christina Ray, Vader Renkewitz, Karina Rodriguez, Gabriel Salinas, Maya Schneider, Jaden Scott, Tulsi Singh, Louisa Skrobela, Caitlin Wegielnik and Sean White.
Huntington’s Tri-M Music Honor Society is designated by the national office as Chapter 2198. To qualify for Tri-M membership students must be enrolled in at least one music class for at least one semester, have at least a 2.0 grade point average in their core classes and a 3.0 in their music classes and be of strong character.
Huntington students are also required to perform a NYSSMA solo or ensemble selection at a Level 5 scoring 95 or above, Level 6 scoring 94 or above or Level 6 All-State scoring 93 or above in the school year prior to submitting their application.
