Blue Devils Win Five Titles at League Championships

The Huntington winter boys’ track and field team captured first place in five separate events on Sunday and finished a strong second place in the team standings at the Section XI League III Championships at Suffolk-West in Brentwood.

Huntington shot put throwers Jean Riboul, Matt Ross and Colby Curran.

Huntington’s 89 points surpassed Half Hollow Hills East (65), Smithtown West (52), East Islip (36), West Babylon (36), Deer Park (28), Smithtown East (17) and Bellport (4) and trailed only Northport (107).

The Blue Devils were up early on a snowy weekend morning, arriving on the scene at Suffolk-West in plenty of time to get a thorough warm-up before the competition began. The time spent to prepare paid off handsomely.

Highlights of the championships included:

• Titan Elysee easily won the 300m dash in a time of 36.84.

• Eric Heinz won the 600m run in 1:24.88 with Adan Ntambwe placing third in 1:26.50.

• Robbie Campbell leaped 5-6.0 feet to win the high jump. He was second in triple jump with a distance of 48-8.5 feet.

• Eric Heinz was third in long jump with a distance of 20-7.5 feet.

• Jean Riboul (47.8.5 feet), Colby Curran (46-3 feet) and Matthew Ross (44-11 feet) swept the shot put.

• Robbie Campbell, Titan Elysee, Eric Heinz and Adan Ntambwe finished first in the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:34.36.

• Wilmer Benitez, Dylan Michaelson, Zayvion McCoy and Spencer Sturges placed fourth in the 4x200m relay in a time of 1:38.66.
