Fourth Grade Music “Informances” Showcase Talents

January 21, 2026

“Informances” at Woodhull Intermediate School and Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School featured fourth grade chorus, orchestra and band students and programs last week. Parents were invited to watch their child’s concert where students had the ability to showcase all they have learned studying their instruments.

The fifth annual “informances” were “spectacular” said Dr. Robert J. Wottawa II., district director of fine and performing arts. “We would like to thank all of our fourth grade music parents for supporting their children in their desire to pursue music. Learning an instrument is not easy and requires an intense amount of focus, multitasking, discipline and resilience.”

The informal, informative performances showcased the techniques and methods learned by students since they began practicing their singing and playing their instruments in September.

Ensemble playing also develops teamwork, cooperation and communication, Dr. Wottawa said These are all skills that will not only benefit these students as they move forward in the music program, but will benefit all areas of their lives, academic and otherwise.

“Congratulations to everyone on their very first performances,” Dr. Wottawa said. “The fourth graders and their parents and family members were all thrilled with the performances. Each group was able to highlight where they are in their learning and the teachers were able to talk about the skills that are being developed.”

Huntington UFSD’s music program is nearly 100 years old. Music has played especially an important role in the modern district. Huntington students regularly win local, regional and state music award.
