Huntington Highlights: Jefferson Teacher Camila Filpo Finds a Home in Huntington

January 21, 2026

In only her first year in Huntington UFSD, Camila Filpo has quickly earned a reputation as a consummate professional at Jefferson Primary School where she is on the faculty as a third grade teacher.

Ms. Filpo earned a Bachelor of Science degree in history at SUNY Oneonta in 2022 and then obtained a Master of Arts in special education and general education at Touro University in 2025. She previously worked as a kindergarten and second grade teacher at Success Academy Elementary School in Far Rockaway.

“I knew that I wanted to be a teacher when I was in second grade,” Ms. Filpo said. “I loved going to school every single day and love that we can learn new things.”

The Jefferson Primary School third grade teacher is a graduate of Oceanside High School, but she loves Huntington now.

The Jefferson School faculty member is the seventh teacher or staff member to be profiled as part of a new “Huntington Highlights” initiative that provides community members with insight into teachers and support staff members who toil at the district’s eight individual school buildings.

“From the moment I was introduced to this school district, I felt welcomed and supported,” Ms. Filpo said. “The positivity radiating from the schools and staff is noticeable. I love this school and am thrilled to come to work every single day!”

“Ms. Filpo is a reflective teacher who continually seeks to elevate her craft, approaching each day with curiosity, intention, and a commitment to growth,” Jefferson Principal Valerie Capitulo-Saide said. “Her dedication to building strong, positive relationships with students, staff, and families is at the heart of her work, creating a learning environment where everyone feels valued and supported”

Outside of the school, Ms. Filpo loves to exercise, “like running or Pilates, reading, going to the beach and spending quality time with my family/friends,” she said.

Now that she’s completely settled into her classroom and ensconced in Huntington UFSD, Ms. Filpo is embracing and participating in all the activities that make Jefferson so special.

“Ms. Filpo is an enthusiastic and reflective new educator at Jefferson Primary School who brings excitement, curiosity, and a genuine love of learning to her classroom each day,” Ms. Capitulo-Saide said. “She consistently volunteers at family engagement events, including the Dual Language Celebration, STEM Night and the Holiday Read-Aloud, demonstrating her commitment to building strong school–home partnerships. She actively seeks opportunities to contribute beyond the classroom, volunteering to serve on our College and Career Awareness planning committee. Her positivity, professionalism, and willingness to support our school community make her a wonderful addition to the Jefferson Primary School faculty.”
