Math Honor Society Welcomes 44 New Members

Huntington High School’s chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, the national Math Honor Society inducted 44 new members during a Tuesday night ceremony before a crowd of parents and school officials.

The ceremony marked the 29th annual induction since the founding of Huntington’s Nathan Hale chapter of Mu Alpha Theta. To be eligible for membership in the society students must be enrolled in a math class higher than Algebra 2 (such as pre-Calculus, Calculus, AP Calculus, Introduction to Statistics, AP Statistics) and have a minimum unweighted grade average of 85 in Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2.

The organization is led by an executive board consisting of Dylan Wong (president), Evan Persampire (vice president), Christian Luca (secretary), Jaipreet Singh (treasurer) Amani Huq (tutoring coordinator). Teachers JoAnn Ferazi and Jordan Swierkowski are the faculty advisors.

The new inductees include Gemma Bedell, Alexandra Boeckmann, Justin Cahn, Julian Canales, Avery Davidson, Addison Delfino, Michael DiVincenzo, Chloe Donovan, Finnian Driscoll, Leighton Evans, Melanie Freeman-Brown, Aubrie Godin, Julia Goodwin, Dylan Goodwin, Alison Hahn, Talia Hayden, Tonswel Henry, Sophie Hoffman, Madyn Kalb, Manpreet Kaur, Hunter Kline, Grace Kline, Gavin Kline, Sena Knopf, Brady LaCosta, Alexandra Learned, Olivia Lee, Eli Levin, Cole Lima Nallely Linares, Fiona Lynch, Leah MacManus, Elliot Manu, Emma Marsala, Norah Moskowitz, Senia Nair, Leila O’Toole, Ella Palatnek, Nataly Posada Lopez, James Ruthkowski, Mursal Safy, Jocelyn Thorbourne, Ella Van Horn and Ryan Waters.

The crowd included Superintendent Beth McCoy, Principal Rochelle C. Brown and Assistant Principals Trish Avelli and Gamal Smith. The evening wrapped up with a small reception in the main lobby outside the auditorium.
