New Coach Looks to Connect with Huntington Baseball Alumni

Huntington High School alum Joe Toscano is the Blue Devil baseball program’s new varsity head coach. He spent the summer taking stock of some of the young players in the pipeline.

Anyone that knows Toscano knows just how competitive he is and how badly he wants to win at anything he chooses to do. Recently retired as a Cold Spring Harbor physical education teacher, he’s committed to building a winner at his alma mater.

The Huntington baseball program is more than 100 years old. Town and early school teams played in cow pastures and open fields, before the high school (when it existed on Main Street in what is now Town Hall) settled into its long-term home in Heckscher Park in the 1920s. It now plays on the high school’s Oakwood Road campus.

Countless players have worn the Blue Devil uniform over the years and Toscano is looking to establish a database of them to facilitate baseball alumni communications.

Huntington won league titles in 1949, 1950, 1952, 160, 1962, 1965 and 2001. It won county championships in 1946, 1949, 1950, 1960 and 2021. It was the Suffolk runner up in 1965 and the Long Island runner up in 1946 and 2021.
