Top World Language Seniors Recognized with Awards

Huntington High School seniors who were especially gifted in the study of languages were honored during a ceremony in the high school auditorium. Class of 2026 members who excelled in Latin, French, Spanish and Italian were recognized.

Huntington UFSD offers students a full complement of world language courses led by licensed teachers. Some students have completed multiple courses, qualifying as trilingual.

The departmental awards ceremony in the high school auditorium drew a crowd of more than 300 students and family members. Several language teachers were on hand to make the formal award presentations along with department director Judy Moroff.

The honorees included:

French: Wynne Franciscovich, Matthew Jimenez, Mia Kaufman, Spencer Krull

Italian: Giovanna Lanfranco, Belinda Velasquez Maldonado, Jolie Weinschreider

Latin: Spencer James, Luis Orrego Salinas

Spanish: Ana Colman Britez, Jesley Martinez Canales, Ashley Moreno Garcia, Jaipreet Singh

The ceremony also drew many district officials, including Superintendent Beth McCoy. The student award recipients were presented with language specific certificates.

The high school offers Advanced Placement courses in each of the world languages, with many students deciding the AP class route is a worthwhile challenge.

Class enrollments for the 2026/27 school year are once again strong in French, Italian, Latin and Spanish with many incoming freshmen taking up where last June’s graduating seniors left off.
