Retired Huntington UFSD Teacher Publishes New Book

Retired Huntington UFSD fourth grade teacher Jim Lauter has published a new book. “So, What Have I Learned?” runs 322 pages. It was published July 31. Ed Ambrosone was the book’s illustrator.

Mr. Lauter retired from teaching in June 2018. He was assigned to Flower Hill School at the time. A paperback copy of the new book can be ordered from Amazon for $16.69.

“If you could give advice to a younger version of yourself, what would it be?” asks a promotional overview of the book. “In So, What Have I Learned? Jim Lauter does just that. The first nine chapters of this offering are written by a frustrated, twenty-two-year old, unemployed version of himself. Those initial concerns, however, are followed by twenty-one chapters of sage advice, delivered by his now sixty-two-year old self, a retired teacher. The result: a series of eye-opening observations containing humorous and heart-warming anecdotes, all passed along for the benefit of his younger self.”

Mr. Lauter obtained an associate’s degree in arts and sciences at Suffolk Community College in 1979 and a bachelor’s degree in communications at SUNY Brockport in 1981. He earned a master’s degree in elementary education at Adelphi University. The retired educator was employed by Huntington UFSD as a teacher from September 1, 1989 through June 30, 2018.
